In the digital era images have become, paradoxically, somewhat less tangible. W H A T W A S F I L M is an exhibition that puts 16mm motion picture film on display for close viewing. Some might think that film is obsolete, but film still is.
Tom Whiteside, a filmmaker and film historian, has been showing films as Durham Cinematheque since 1991.
