TINY: Attention, Exploded

Curated by Chris Vitiello

April 30 – May 11, 2013

In TINY, artists consider the miniature, very small, and microscopic. This requires extremes of their sight and attention. It also requires them to change their scale in relation to the other objects and beings in the world. Equal parts childhood fascination and mania, TINY is about how particularities of attention locate joy in the world opening up and anxious knowledge in the world closing in.

-Chris Vitiello

TINY contains 80 works by about 50 area artists, and includes three egg carton “museums” curated by first-thru-third-graders at Watts Montessori Magnet School in Durham; a microscope and prepared slides to pique your inner scientist; a clothesline of tiny books that visitors can write or draw in and leave for others; and site-specific installations on windowsills and in corners.

Artists include Brett Baker, Amanda Barr, Torry Bend, Marissa Katarina Bergmann, Jessica Berkowitz, Andy Berner, Kyra Brogden’s class, Brent Cunningham, Maria DeGuzman, Teddy Devereux, Jan Dickey, Lisa Hosokawa Garber, Gail Goers, sarah goetz, Heather Gordon, Marsha Gordon, Warren Hicks, Michael Itkoff, Mark Iwinski, George Jenne, Carol Kroll, Revere La Noue, Gracelee Lawrence, Stephanie Liner, Libby Lynn, Mario Marzan, Lisa McCarty, Bonnie Melton, Chance Murray, Parasol B, MacKenzie Peck, Chuck Pell, Eric Raddatz, vicToria Ralston, Molly Renda, Courtney Satterfield, MJ Sharp, elin o’Hara slavick, Tom Spleth, Cici Stevens, Alex Stewart, Mary Storms, River Takada-Capel, Martha Thorn, JP Trostle, Brenda Adams van Orsouw, Chris Vitiello, Amy White and Lisa Williams.
