The Carrack’s 5th Birthday + Moving Party

Saturday, June 25, 2016,  5 – 10 pm

Please join us to celebrate our fifth birthday, bid our Parrish Street home farewell and break in our new space in the Torus Building at 947 East Main Street this Saturday, June 25.

We make partying as easy as 1, 2, 3. Join us for a full evening that includes:

5:00 pm: Farewell party and closing reception for the Community Show at 111 West Parrish Street.
6:30 pm: Community walk/bike/ride to our new home at 947 East Main Street (only 0.8 miles) led by the Bulltown Strutters.
7 – 10 pm: Birthday and opening party with food from Loaf Bakery and R&B Grill, beer from Ponysaurus Brewing, wine from Wine Authorities, local DJs, art performances, live music and vendors.

This celebration is a Carrack-style DIY farewell and welcome party! Bring instruments or noisemakers, wear a mask or costume, perform your own work. Get art-y with it.

Come for the whole night or stop by when you can. Read on for full details.

5:00pm: Farewell Party at 111 West Parrish Street

Join us in our home of 5 years at 111 West Parrish Street for a closing reception for the Community Show and farewell party for the space. We’ll share some of our favorite Parrish Street memories (please bring yours too!) and make costumes and noise-makers for the Main Street procession, courtesy of The Scrap Exchange. This is also the last chance to see the Community Show, featuring work by 152 local artists.

6:30pm: Sidewalk Procession to 947 East Main Street

bulltonw-struttersHop in line at 6:30pm for a festive community sidewalk procession to our new home at 947 East Main Street (only 0.8 miles!) led by the Bulltown Strutters, Durham’s New Orleans-Style Parade Band. There is plenty of free parking on East Main Street and on Morning Glory Avenue. Note that the Bull City Connector stops running at 9:00pm.

Local artist-DJs Mike B, Vespertine, and Marie will be spinning on The Carrack’s new back deck and Russell Favret is playing a live set in the SPECTRE Arts green space. Favret is a staple of the local music scene and has shared the stage with names such as Al Strong, Laura Reed, Kobie Watkins, Heather Victoria, Jeff Bradshaw, Sean Jones, Rapsody and 9th Wonder. He is also a member of local Fusion-Hip Hop act Zoocrü.

Explore our new gallery space inside the Torus building with more art, music and performance. Enjoy live sets by Jones Michael and Anonymous Jones, shop with Allie Capo of Capo Vintage, and check out original artwork and a limited edition commemorative print by Carrack artists. We’re also proud to feature Stacey L. Kirby’s latest performative interaction, I AM, in our new all-gender, accessible bathroom.

Stacey L. Kirby’s performative interaction, I AM, continues a conversation about civil rights and the validity of communities, families, and individuals throughout the United States. In I AM, Kirby explores gender identity and discrimination in response to the passing of House Bill 2 by the North Carolina Legislature on March 23rd, 2016 at 9:57pm. During the performance, Kirby, as a NC Department of Compliance Facility Officer, will be working from within the restroom and requiring visitors to submit an application for usage of the facility.

Limited edition prints honoring our 5th Birthday and original “C” logo are available this week only by donation. You can get yours now on Parrish Street or at East Main Street this Saturday. The prints are designed by Annick Le Goff and lovingly screenprinted by Annick, Jessica Kemp, Laura Ritchie and Jon Fuller, with the support of Supergraphic/SUPER G Print Lab. We also have a selection of small, original artworks for sale donated by local artists in support of The Carrack.

Loaf Bakery’s delicious breads and spreads will be served at our reception on Parrish Street and R&B Grill and Concession will be parked on Morning Glory Avenue offering fish, chicken, shrimp, Philly cheesesteak, Italian sausages, and more during the party. Our new neighbors at Ponysaurus are providing free beer and Wine Authorities will be onsite serving wine.

Thank you to all of our Community Show artists, sponsors, business partners, performers and vendors for helping to make this the BEST BIRTHDAY + MOVING PARTY EVER! Special thanks also to our amazing team of volunteers and behind-the-scenes sponsors, SugarQube Records, Arcana, Lucky’s Delicatessen, The Scrap Exchange and Spectre Arts.
