ReFraming Food

ReFraming Food

A Food Youth Initiative Photography Exhibit

In partnership with Click! Triangle Photography Festival

October 11 – 22, 2016

ReFraming Food is an exhibit of photographs by young NC FYI: Food Youth Initiative Justice Activists.

Over the last year, and for some groups much longer, photographer Pete Eversoll has led workshops with the youth groups of Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) Food Youth Initiative to work with photography as a medium for storying their Food Justice work. Each group approaches food system from the needs, resources, and assets of their community and, here, offer to you images across the network of FYI: Conetoe Family Life Center’s Eastern NC church work to teach holistic well-being and youth leadership; Growing Change’s efforts to flip a prison into an educational farm and resource center for youth and veterans; Transplanting Traditions’ work to address cultural displacement through sharing foodways; and Poder Juvenil Campesino’s advocacy and education to protect and empower their community. This is a glimpse of the communities and lives, passions and play of just some of the food justice youth leaders in NC.

The exhibit features photographs by FYI youth groups:

  • Conetoe Family Life Center – Edgecombe County
  • Growing Change – Scotland, Hoke, & Robinson Counties
  • Poder Juvenil Campesino- Lenoir, Green, & Wayne Counties
  • Transplanting Traditions – Orange County
