MEZCLA: Call to Artists

Call to Artists

Deadline to apply: February 20, 2017

Artist and Art Educator Claudia Corletto invites artists to submit work for a group show at The Carrack titled MEZCLA.

This call is open to all artists that identify as Hispanic or Latinx. Artists are invited to submit their cultural narrative using a material and style reflective of their own personal work. A variety of media including but not limited to drawing, sculpture, video, and interactive-object based installations are welcome.

MEZCLA is strongly rooted in the principle that Hispanic and Latinx artists should be the only authors of their own narrative and how Hispanic and Latinx culture and identity is formed in the United States.

About the impetus for the show, Corletto writes, “It’s very cute for some of these spaces to pay homage to magical realism in Latin America, but enough already. We exist, we’re here and we drive this country.”

Artists are invited to send images of their work, a brief statement and a bio to by February 20, 2017 to be considered by a jury panel. The jury process will ensure that each MEZCLA artist presents contemporary art work at the highest standard.

  • Artists may submit up to six images for consideration. Up to two artworks may be selected by the panel for the exhibit.
  • Artwork must be under 7ft tall, weigh less than 75 pounds and fit through a standard sized door.
  • Work may be for sale but it is not required. There is no fee to participate and The Carrack is a zero-commission art space. Artists keep 100% of what they make from sales.
