Live Spoken Word Poetry

Live Spoken Word Poetry

Truth Underground

Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 8 pm

The Clarion Content welcomes you to a fantastic evening event in support of the spoken word documentary film, “Truth Underground” Thursday, June 13th at 8pm.

This film, about the Spoken Word poetry culture in the local area, follows three area poets through a year in words. Spoken word is not an esoteric exercise in theory for these young people, it is an everyday intimate part of their lives, an emotional outlet, a release valve, a statement space that they fill with vibrant, dynamic challenges that resonate with all who hear them deliver those verses in public. The film follows them on that journey.

The poets whom are in film participate in school programs locally from Hillside High School and Northern High School in Durham to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School to Durham Academy. Some of these competitors will be traveling as far afield as Chicago to deliver their poems at national events this year.

You can read more about the film and the educational outreach mission it supports here…

Come see FREE live spoken word poetry performances and a special screening of the film’s trailer! Have an opportunity to meet the film’s director, Gerret Warner and some of the poets one-on-one.
