Catharsis comes in waves. Sometimes the wave churns you under. What a year 2016 has been. This past June, Justin Cook drove across the country alone. Vegas, Zion, Montana, Seattle, elsewhere. Through screams and celebration, Cook shot an unromanticized American West. Fallen heroes and modern-day cowboys, hellscapes and unspoiled sanctuaries, wonder and boredom. And then he came home.
Cook shares this body of work, entitled “Voyager,” slideshow-style and talks with critic Chris Vitiello about grief, hitting the road hard, making work, and bringing it back home.
