Juggling Chainsaws by Kate Gordon

Juggling Chainsaws

by Kate Gordon

Juggling Chainsaws is an exhibition focusing on how animation, video and painting can intersect through the vehicle of collage. This show will feature pop-up book playfulness with a painter’s sense of formal grit. In a world where reality is a layered event, this show seeks to build illusions to both upend and challenge our sense of what is true and what is imagined.

Artist Bio

Kate Gordon’s paintings are interjected and spliced with collage elements. Depth of field, the pragmatism of space, and the reliance of figure and ground are altered upon impact through her approach. She builds these painted worlds, all in keeping, with the notion that the dream imagery she mines, is itself not rational. Hers is a translation, rather than a statement upon the utter strangeness of life. Kate Gordon holds a BFA from Pratt Institute and an MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She will begin teaching at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette this coming Fall as an Assistant Professor of Figure Drawing and Foundations.
