“Queen of Heaven” is the title of Marcela Slade’s new series of paintings. As an Expressionist, Instrumentalist, Slade uses distortion as a statement about human nature. Most of her work is inspired by her personal life and fascinations. This series of small to medium sized acrylic paintings, includes clowns, queens/kings, children story characters, death and love.
During this one night only event, there will also be live painting and a catwalk displaying some of Slade’s line of fashion, sladesign. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, designed and fabricated by the artist. Many of the pieces are from recycled vintage materials and silk. Others are “readymades” meaning they are existing pieces which Slade tweaks into her own designs.
Slade has had several fashion/art shows locally and internationally since 2007. Some of the local venues include Carrboro Greenspace, Cat’s Cradle, Southern Rail’s Station and Beer Garden and Durham Golden Belt / Cotton Room. Each fashion show is designed and produced by Slade.
